U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy was airlifted to a Boston hospital Saturday morning after falling ill at the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport, Mass., the Cape Cod Times reported.
He was first rushed to Cape Cod Hospital, and after being in the emergency room for two hours he was transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital, according to the Times.
It's unknown what the 76-year-old senator's medical condition is.

I hope he's ok. - Even if I don't agree with his politics at the end of the day he is a human being.

Donald:
I appreciate your candor and kind words for someone you disagree with. I wish that Greg could be as magnanimous as you.

Ditto on that Scott, thanks Donald.
Hang tough Teddy.

I hope he does ok also. It seems that the Kennedy family has had more then there fair share of tragic events. At least he is going to one of the best trauma centers around. However the fact that he is going to that one, has me concerned.

Donald:
He's probably not. The phrase "airlifted from Cape Cod Hospital to Mass General" is a very bad sign.
- 4 votes
Jack's right. My dad had to have a quadruple bypass and he happened to go to a hospital equipped to handle him. Had he gone to our local hospital he would have had to have been airlifted to the hospital he went to on the way home from work. If Kennedy was airlifted that means that his condition is extremely serious, worsening and he is in need of far more than the hospital he was at could give him.

Teddy the K is 76 and has a history of high blood pressure and is on medication for that. He is on medication for high cholesterol. He had surgery for a blockage in his carotid artery. He has a history of smoking and heavy drinking. He's been a US senator for forty-five years. He is an icon of the democratic party.
It goes without saying that he would be air lifted to a top Boston hospital for observation, tests and treatment. That being said, it's time for him to retire and let Massachusetts take a fresh breath of political air.

Latest Word says Seizure Only and Not a stroke, so that is major good news.
"Preliminary tests have determined that he has not suffered a stroke and is not in any immediate danger," his physician, Dr. Larry Ronan, said in a statement.

Being airlifted to MGH is not necessarily a bad sign. I used to live near the Cape and all my doctors were at MGH. I now live in FLA and all my doctors are at MGH. If you want the best care go to MGH. Just ask my former brain tumor.

BeeTee:
Grats on beating the tumor!
If you want the best care go to MGH.
Well, THAT be true. Still, this "stroke-like sympton" stuff has to be rubbish. They'd never have sent him MGH unless it was a stroke.
- 3 votes
Gillis, I had a stroke 4 years ago, getting to the hospital quickly is necessary.
- 2 votes
George, So true! "Getting to the hospital quickly" that has the equipment to perform necessary procedures is spot on. The term "time is muscle" applies to heart attack victims. I do hope Senator Kennedy is not in grave danger, and that he recovers from whatever has happened today.

george s:
I'm so glad to hear that you are doing better after the stroke you suffered a few years back.
Time is most certainly of the essence when it comes to any kind of artery blockage whether it be a stroke or heart attack. My dad had two painful heart attacks that he shrugged off but were pretty serious. He hates hospitals and ERs. He finally went to the hospital on his way home from work (which is how he ended up at the heart hospital rather than the local one I spoke of earlier) because he was feeling so bad. The doctor said he was lucky to be alive and that the third heart attack would have surely killed him.

I just read that a minute ago, Dennis - while I was thinking about posting a retraction.
Just kidding.
- 1 vote
Uh, Dennis, don't you find his celebration of Kennedy being sick and hoping he dies reprehensible?

I hope he's okay. They're calling it a seizure now.

For the record - I don't wish Ted Kennedy dead.
I really don't like the man or his politics and I would not be sorry if his contribution to American public life was over.
Let me just add that I hope he recovers and then retires from politics.

Ha - thanks, jfx, I think, and wittily put, Jimster.
Humor always makes for a pleasant start to a sunny Sunday morning.
I'm sure you will be pleased to know that the vitriolic GOM of ultra left wing liberalism is well enough to have watched the Red Sox game in his hospital room. He has not had a stroke and is making a recovery.
Enjoy your day, guys.

Jfx and Scott, it seems there is some serious house cleaning going on around here right now as I write.
Please be aware that the apparent deletion of your posts has nothing to do with me. I have made no complaint.
To whomsoever, please re-instate their posts, or come here and offer an explanation.

And what, may I ask, was wrong with my comment at #5.1 to render its demise necessary?
- 1 vote
Gregg:
Actually, I'm not surprised at mine getting deleted, but I am a little surprised at Scott's. He confronted you pretty strongly but not outside the CoH, in my opinion.
- 1 vote
Well I guess it doesn't matter much now.
I've been in some un-moderated places over the years and it becomes a farce not worth being involved in. I'm referring to Abuzz at NYT which used to be a great place for animated debate until it all got out of hand.
I kinda like (I think), that a certain degree of civility gets enforced when tempers run high in this place.
In any event and apart from the political divide, I wish you well.
I'm in England right now, wishing I was back home. Now I'm headed for bed with the prospect of a long, tough week ahead.
Greg:
Well, like I said in a collapsed or deleted comment, in hindsight of you saying it was a joke my hostility was out of place.

It's ok Dude.
I'm so far away and missing home that I say things from the outside and I mean it.
I'm way out on the right and we'll agree to differ.
No offense taken, buddy.

Still, seizure or stroke, it is a serious matter and I am sure his family is glad he is at a fine hospital. And thank you for being magnanimous enough to wish him well, Donald. (It is the NV way!)

I wish sen. Kennedy well and send him good energy, Hetep.

Good luck Ted.
It's rather disappointing to see supposed conservatives act like political wackjobs. Replace Tony Snow with Kennedy and Killfile with one of these guys above and I've made my point. Joke or no joke, you're no different than those who treat their politics like it's their religion.
Political BS stops where personal tragedy begins.
There are few I despise more then TK, but come on people...

A Newsviner I admire (can't remember who) once said that he didn't hate the person, he hated their politics.

Otto @ #11 Point taken, although politics is far from my religion. I rather dislike it altogether.
Andrew @ #11.1 I can go along with that.

Tedd: You should add cars to that list too.

OK Jay, your correct, I will add you on that list also ☺ But I still like Corvettes....

Tedd:
The 79 Trans Am is more my speed or one of the 70's or 80's Camaros along with the redesigned Camaro. The Camaro that Bumblebee morphs into in the Transformers movie is absolutely badass. :-)
- 4 votes
79 Trans Am was a dog motor, I had a 70 Trans Am, that was nice. My guess is the Camaro on Bumblebee you were far more interested in the rather attractive option that bent over next to it.....
70 z-28 or any Corvette XO6 I will take you on, or my new ZR1
- 4 votes
Tedd:
I liked the 79 Trans Am because of the body design and the Phoenix on the hood artwork. If I were to get one I would have as strong an engine as the transmission could handle dropped into it.
Upon more research I found that Bumblebee was a 2009 Camaro. This is it right here. I love the tinted windows as I always tint the windows in every car I own. It looks cool but it also cuts down on the direct sunlight in the cab which my eyes are sensitive to.
Among some other favorites of mine are the new redesigned Mustang that took its inspiration from the lovely Eleanor from Gone In 60 Seconds and the Chevy Nova before it was emasculated into an economy car. Yet another reason to hate OPEC. ;-)

Well you get a BlackBird on your tail or your basic Tedd White TransAm with a 455 stock with solid lifter cam and 4.11 rear end and some of that local airport 110 octane Av-gas and your feet looking down at those awesome matching Firebird mats your going to tell me that as a 17 yr old in High School pulling 1/4 mile times in 12.1 seconds in shabby ? Tell me that is not a nice graphic ?
And those exhaust cut-out out values that you did not have ?
Good old Senator Muskie killed the muscle car with the environmental laws and in 71, the engines took a huge hit in power and the gas milage went to pieces. That is the reason I like the up to 70's, no converters, only thing was a ega valve so working on them was simply. I think the 79 Transam logo is pretty close to the originally 70's, just more modern for the times. For the 70's, that 70 TransAm was a killer. the 70 Car and Driver magazine I still have it had either the worlds fastest or US fastest, and it was a TransAm...Now a stock ford truck could go faster....
Upon more research I found that Bumblebee was a 2009 Camaro.
Actually that was the marketing move of the century and I still cannot believe that GM somehow was able to pull that brilliant movie off so well and so cleanly and not get sued for what they pulled off, but that took some guts.
Do just a bit more research and you will find many photos of that Camaro, but all in secret GM protolabs that got snuck out as a "concept car" then came the whole idea of the movie "Transformers" Notice that the Mustang was the Cop car and the bad guy, yet the Camero was the good guy ? Well that idea all came from GM Marketing, then supplied both cars and Transformers was used to introduce the new Camero....interesting logic.. Ford was not to amused either..

Very, VERY nice stuff Tedd. You should have seen this car my dad and I saw at a car auction on TV. I wasn't terribly familiar with the type of car it was (or I suspect I would remember the model LOL) but it had a 555 cu. inch engine that pumped 950+ hp and when you introduced the first stage of NO2 that went to 1,200+ hp. The revving of that engine was absolutely deafening even over the TV.
I bet that Ford was not pleased at all with the "to punish and enslave" Mustang police car on Transformers and the hero being the Camaro. LOL Even though I love Ford and it wasn't the best PR for them, that was the baddest looking cop car that I've ever seen.

The old GTO large block Transam and GTO's all had porcelain headers and three inch pipes and a very unique sound, more of a harley rumble almost, great fun to drive and just unreal torque. Perfect girlfriend finder also :-)
- 3 votes
I bet it was ladybait to boot. Do you think because of the oil situation that American muscle is dead and unable to be revived?
- 4 votes
No..Painfully slow reaction time, not listening to what customers want and years of poor quantity control.
Muscle car usually sell fast if they are half way decent. Mustangs are doing well, Dodge Hemis are, the new ZRI corvettes are sold out and going at twice the MRSP.
But they totally ignored the rice rocket market of honda, hot subarus and all that.

Tedd:
This has given me an idea for a couple of car-inspired articles. I'm going to Kentucky on Thursday through the weekend... if I don't write them before then perhaps I will write them on the ride down or while I am in Slade. It's right near Natural Bridge in the midst of the Daniel Boone National Forest. I'm hoping for writing inspiration there. Happily while I will be away from home visiting my homeland, I can still be at my home away from home on Newsvine as the hotel has wireless internet and I have a Verizon Wireless Internet modem. ;-)
- 3 votes
Oh yeah.. I will be heading to Bowling Green, Kentucky around June 20th to the National Corvette Museum as a option (a very popular one) is you can take delivery of your vette at the factory and they give you a tour of the factory and a DVD of the video of your car as its being made and all the people that worked on it sign under the hood and you meet them, its alot of fun. I have gone with friends before and its pretty cool.
Yeah the National Bridge Area is nice, great area.
- 4 votes
Don't forget to take a picture of the Natural Bridge and post it here!
You can even post pictures of the 'vettes, too, if you're allowed to take pictures of the factory too.
Have a good vacation and lots of fun -- drive safe. Kentuckians are really friendly folks and so I am sure you will have some great conversations and experiences.
- 2 votes
Yep, you can take pictures at the factory as that is part of the whole thing, you get a tour and meet the people the built the car and most people end up with tons of photos, Yeah I love taking pictures of the Natural Bridge, that is awesome. Kentucky people are great, some of the warmest people I have met before.
- 2 votes
I'll be sure to take pictures and perhaps I will turn my trip into a little article of its own. :-)
Thanks for the heads up about the Vette museum, Tedd.

If you are in that area, its well worth visiting, they have a ton of history on display.

The Associated Press just reported that the Senator has a malignant brain tumor.
